South county roundup: Othello ground game quiets Quincy

Othello 23, Quincy 6

QUINCY — Steven Ochoa scored two total touchdowns and Othello beat Quincy 23-6 to improve to 1-0 in Central Washington Athletic Conference North play.

Ochoa churned out 67 yards on the ground and caught one touchdown pass for 12 yards. Isaac Barragan led the Othello ground game with 196 yards, which included an 8-yard touchdown run.

Andrew Velasquez added a 22-yard field goal.

Connell 35, Wahluke 0

CONNELL — Wahluke gained less than 200 yards in a 35-0 loss at Connell.

Oscar Rodriguez passed for 117 yards and threw one interception. Jose Celaya rushed for 86 yards on 26 carries.

The Eagles blitzed the Warriors with 20 points in the first quarter. Jekoby Tuttle opened the scored with the first of his two touchdowns. Tuttle finished with a game-high 150 rushing yards.

River View 33, Warden 18

KENNEWICK — Warden fell behind 27-6 after three quarters and lost at River View 33-18.

Ryan Arredondo passed for 233 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions. Edgar Hernandez caught six passes for 138 yards and one touchdown. Kaden Skone added six catches for 76 yards.

ELLENSBURG — Othello fell behind early and lost to Ellensburg 4-0.

Blake Johnson led the Bulldogs with two goals.

Tuesday

Ephrata 3, Othello 2

EPHRATA — Lynette Sanchez scored a second-half hat trick and Ephrata rallied to beat Othello 3-2.

The Huskies held a 1-0 advantage at halftime before the Tigers were able to take advantage of the wind at their backs in the second half.

“We played pretty well,” Ephrata head coach Gary Klepec said. “We had a few defensive breakdowns that resulted in their scores.”

Shaya Parrish gave the Huskies the lead in the first half off an assist from Emily Mendez. Mendez also assisted on Gracie Sorenson’s goal in the 76th minute.

Klepec highlighted the defensive play of junior Isabel Truscott. Ephrata midfielder Summer Cranford injured her shoulder and sophomore defender McKenzie Lembcke was concussed.

Warden 2, Royal 1 (SO)

WARDEN ­— Brecka Erdmann made three saves in the shootout and Warden held on to beat Royal 2-1.

Quinn Erdmann scored Warden’s goal in regulation.

WARDEN — Warden outlasted Royal in five sets 19-25, 25-18, 20-25, 25-17, 15-11.

“I think Royal and our team are pretty evenly matched,” Warden head coach Dennis Treat said.

Kiana Rios totaled 7 kills and 15 digs for the Cougars. Kayla Golladay had a team-high 10 kills and Jlynn Rios added 20 digs.
