Othello — Road construction will be taking place along Broadway Avenue in Othello starting Oct. 7. The project is expected to last four days.

“This project will grind down the areas of pavement that have or are starting to fail and fill them back in with new asphalt,” said Shawn O’Brien, engineer for the City of Othello. “Areas of pavement that are failing, will generally be ground down 2.5 inches and 4 feet wide. The areas will be filled back in within an hour with new hot mix asphalt and opened to traffic once the new mix cools down.”

The project will take place along Broadway from Fir Street to Highway 26. Traffic will be reduced to one lane traveling in each direction.

“The work will mostly occur in the inside lane on both the northbound and southbound sides of Broadway Avenue,” O’Brien said.

The construction is being done by Quality Paving, Inc., from Moses Lake. They did the city’s crack sealing project earlier in the year.

“The project will cost approximately $165,000 and is being paid for with Transportation Benefit District funds that generated by a voter-approved 0.2 percent sales tax,” O’Brien said. “The project will improve the quality of the existing ride, reduce future repair costs and extend the life of Broadway Avenue.”
