Preliminary election results in
EPHRATA — Preliminary results of the Tuesday, Nov. 5 election are in.
Proposition No. 1, a sales tax to benefit local law enforcement, passed with 62.6 percent of the total vote. The Grant County Sheriff’s office will split the proceeds from the tax 60-40 with city law enforcement.
In the race for State Representative Position No. 2 for Legislative District 13, Alex Ybarra received 75.75 percent of the total vote over opponent Steve Verhey. In Grant County, Ybarra received 79.32 percent of the vote. Overall, there were 62 write-in candidate votes recorded. Twenty-two of those were in Grant County.
In local races, Wahluke School District board member Maybeline Pantaleon received 65.87 percent of the vote over write-in candidate Hans Groenke. Jesse Chiprez, a recent appointee to the Wahluke School Board, received 74.91 percent of the vote over write-in candidate Trevor Waters. In the race between current board member Seth Weeks and City Council member Tony Acosta, Weeks received 63.34 percent of the vote. There were two write-in votes for this race. Current board member Craig Sabin received 66.26 percent of the vote over opponent Samantha Ruiz-Thomas. This race had three write-in votes.
For the City of Warden, Tony Massa, the current mayor of Warden, received 57.04 percent of the vote over Alan Talbot, a reserve police officer for Warden. There was one write-in vote in this race.
In the Othello Hospital District 3 Commissioner Position No. 2 race, current commissioner Gayle Bohannan received 50.66 percent of votes over Donna Reichert.
Jonathan (Jon) Erickson received 52.22 percent of the vote over current Othello councilman Eugene Bain in the City Of Othello Council Position 4 race.
Othello School District Director for District No. 2 also saw the incumbent voted out of office. Sharon Schutte received 61.67 percent of the vote over Board Chairman Rob Simmons. In the race for the open seat in District No. 4, Lindsy Prows received 67.58 percent of votes over opponent JR Pruneda. Mike Garza, current director for Position No. 5 — At Large, is retaining his position with 51.96 percent of votes over Roger Durkee.
As of Monday, Nov. 11, only 200 ballots in Adams County were left to be counted while 120 ballots were left in Grant County. In Adams County, 38.04 percent of voters cast ballots. Grant County had a 41.14 percent voter turnout.
Final election results will be certified by each county on Nov. 26. The Secretary of State for the State of Washington will certify results on Dec. 5.
