South county roundup: Warden gets by Ki-Be to extend season
Warden 29, Kiona-Benton 18
WARDEN — Warden picked up a crucial win for its postseason hopes on Friday night, defeating Kiona-Benton 29-18.
Quarterback Ryan Arredondo threw three touchdown passes and Holden Haworth returned a kick late to help the Cougars hold off the Bears. Arredondo threw touchdown strikes to Edgar Hernandez and Ayzaiah Pruneda.
Kiona-Benton pulled within five points, 23-18, before Haworth’s kickoff return.
Warden, after escaping a Kansas City Tiebreaker on Monday as the No. 3 seed, will travel to face South Central Athletic Conference West No. 2 seed Zillah on Friday.
Royal 76, College Place 7
ROYAL CITY — Royal allowed its first touchdown since the end of September in a 76-7 trouncing of College Place.
The Knights (6-0, 9-0) led 42-0 at halftime behind four first-half touchdowns from Lorenzo Myrick. Myrick rushed for three and caught one of Caleb Christensen’s three touchdown passes.
Myrick, Elliott Delay, Cooper Christensen and Gunnar Livingston all rushed for over 50 yards; all four found pay dirt.
Royal hosts South Central Athletic Conference West No. 4 seed Goldendale (3-3, 3-6) on Nov. 8 at 7 p.m.
Wahluke 46, Highland 0
COWICHE — Wahluke outgained Highland 430-137 in a blowout win, 46-0.
Quarterback Oscar Rodriguez passed for 213 yards and three touchdowns. The Warriors (1-5, 4-5) methodically built their lead, scoring no more than two touchdowns in each quarter.
Jose Celaya had touchdown runs of 2, 1 and 13 yards. Tony Cruz led all rushers with 134 yards and a score.
Wahluke closes the regular season Nov. 8 at Class 2A Grandview.
Othello 13, Selah 10
GRANDVIEW — Othello hit a pair of field goals in the fourth quarter to beat Selah 13-10.
Andrew Velasquez canned a 26-yarder with under four minutes to play to tie the game, 10-10, before a 40-yarder as time expired to win the game.
The Huskies (3-1, 5-4) will play in a crossover game with a Great Northern League opponent on Nov. 8.
Girls soccer
Royal, Warden eliminated from SCAC District Tournament; Wahluke advances
Royal and Warden girls soccer saw its seasons come to an end in the first round of the South Central Athletic Conference District playoffs.
Royal was shut out by Cle Elum-Roslyn 2-0. Grace Terrill scored in the 18th minute and Grace Jackson added an insurance goal in the 80th.
Warden lost at Highland 3-1. Top-seeded Wahluke held off Naches Valley 2-1.

Volleyball
Quincy 3, Othello 1
OTHELLO — Quincy closed its regular season with a win at Othello 25-21, 20-25, 25-18, 25-14.
Ashlyn Rosenberger led the Jacks with 13 kills. Mackenzie Kleyn totaled nine kills and four aces; Jackie Dearie added seven kills.
The win moved Quincy (6-3) into a three-way tie for third place, however, due to a number draw Prosser will be the third seed, Quincy the fourth and Ephrata the fifth in the upcoming District tournament.
Quincy and Ephrata split two matches this season, both reaching five sets.
“Whoever serves the toughest and passes the best in serve receive (will win),” Quincy head coach Dean Pratt said.
Wahluke 3, Warden 0
WARDEN — Wahluke closed its regular season with a four-set win at Warden 25-9, 25-16, 19-25, 25-16.
Warden was without four varsity players who were attending a Future Farmers of America convention.
Kaya Enriquez led the Cougar attack with eight kills, in addition to 15 digs. Kiana Rios had 32 digs and six blocks; Alexys Gibbons added 10 digs and eight assists.
