South county roundup: Othello boys golf repeats as district champions

SUNNYSIDE — Patrick Azevedo was the individual medalist by 10 strokes and Othello boys golf repeated as district champions with a team score of 354.

League champion Ephrata scored 367 to place second.

In addition to Azevedo, the Huskies’ Nathan Roosma and Isaiah Garza qualified for next week’s state tournament at Liberty Lake. Roosma shot an 88 to place seventh and Garza carded 93 to take 12th — the last state berth.

Othello scores: Patrick Azevedo 70, Nathan Roosma 88, Isaiah Garza 93, Malachi Garza 103, Jacob Jewell 109.

Boys soccer

Lakeside 2, Royal 1

NINE MILE FALLS — Royal briefly led 1-0 in its first-round state playoff game, but fell to undefeated Lakeside 2-1.

The Knights went up in the 14th minute before Lukas Ousley evened the game one minute later. Lakeside’s Ethan Williams scored the go-ahead goal in the 47th minute.

Royal’s Ty Miller kept the game close with eight saves.

Softball

Warden wins district championship

CONNELL — Warden picked up two wins on Saturday to win the SCAC 1A District Tournament championship.

The Cougars held off Cle Elum/Roslyn 2-0 in the semifinals before blowing out Royal 13-1 in the title game.

Royal upset No. 2 seed College Place 8-7 in the semifinals. Warden and Royal both clinched a state tournament berth.
