Memorial Day volunteers
The Veterans of Foreign Wars, Sgt. Robert F. Wiley, Post 8889 in Othello is asking for your help again this year.
You are a very important part of our Memorial Day and we would not receive the compliments for the flags and the way they look as they wave over each veteran’s grave and the casket flags that have accompanied the veterans to their final resting place.
We also hear about the neatness of the cemetery and how clean it appears. The veterans are sincere when we tell them that it is the work of the grounds personnel who takes such pride in keeping it presentable and the volunteers that help us set up the flags and help take them down.
Our schedule will be to have the poles loaded, set out and the monument and poles cleaned at 6 p.m. Sunday, May 26.
Monday morning, May 27, we will place the flags and raise the casket flags at 6 a.m. The memorial service will be 11 a.m., with the flags taken down and put away at 6 p.m. that evening.
We would like to thank all those who have supported us for years and for those who may be coming for the first time. It is all those who come to support us that make it what it is.
Roger Schell
Commander, VFW Post 8889
