South county roundup: Othello softball shut out by Class 4A Moses Lake

OTHELLO — Gina Skinner allowed one hit in seven innings and Moses Lake beat Othello in a non-league contest 7-0.

Skinner struck out 10, surrendering only two walks and a single hit to Malayah Sauceda.

Moses Lake took a 1-0 lead in the second inning before plating six in the fourth. Laurissa Martinez hit a solo shot to give the Chiefs an early lead.

Moses Lake was able to load the bases in the fourth inning. From there, the Chiefs alternated between bases-loaded walks and RBI singles. Michelle Turner and Sydney Ries walked with the bases loaded Cheyenne Walker and Skinner added RBI singles. Walker and Ries were able to score on an error later in the inning.

Boys soccer

Royal 4, College Place 1

ROYAL CITY ­— Royal rattled off three goals in an eight-minute span to pull away from College Place 4-1.

Luis Rodriguez scored twice and Eliseo Romero added two assists and a goal. Uriel Garcia was the Knights’ last goal-scorer.

Wahluke 7, Kiona-Benton 1

BENTON CITY — Wahluke received two goals each from three players and beat Kiona-Benton 7-1.

Orlando Erazo, Alex Valdez and Edwin Martinez all scored twice.

Baseball

Othello 7, Grandview 3

GRANDVIEW ­— Othello opened up a 7-0 lead and defeated Grandview 7-3.

Melic Hathaway and Jonathan Garza both hit solo home runs. Garza hit a solo shot in the second inning and Hathaway led off the fourth with a big fly.

Jay Rodriguez went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and a run scored. Sebastian Munoz struck out six batters in six innings pitched.

Royal 13, River View 0

ROYAL CITY — Royal scored all 13 of its runs in the fourth inning to shut out River View 13-0.

Caleb Christensen hit a two-run double at the start of the inning and later tripled home three runs before the side was retired.

Derek Bergeson totaled three RBIs with a run scored. Tyler Allred and JC Worsham also drove in multiple runs.

Selah 13-5 , Othello 3-0

SELAH — Othello could not close out its regular season with a win and was swept by Selah 13-3 and 5-0.

Despite the two losses, Othello reached the postseason and will play next in the District 5/6 Tournament May 4 against the winner of Grandview-Quincy.

The Huskies held a brief 3-1 lead in the opener before the Vikings scored 12 unanswered runs, including six in the fourth inning. Josh Garza, Melic Hathaway and Gage Pruneda had one RBI each.

The Huskies managed four hits in Game 2, but could not scratch a run out.

Royal 14-20, Connell 5-8

CONNELL — Royal erupted for 34 total runs in a doubleheader sweep of Connell 14-5 and 20-8.

Cooper Christensen was 3-for-5 with four RBIs and a double in Game 1. Sawyer Jenks and Tyler Allred drove in multiple runs as well.

The Knights took advantage of five Eagle errors in Game 2. The Knights pounded out 20 hits and pulled away with a six-run third inning.

Allred had six RBIs, four hits and one run scored.
