Othello 16, Sunnyside 0

SUNNYSIDE — Othello scored 12 runs in the third inning and beat Sunnyside 16-0.

Malayah Sauceda went 4-for-4 with two doubles and Janissa Garza added three hits and a double.

Maya Valdez pitched four innings with three strikeouts.

Boys soccer

Royal 2, La Salle 2

ROYAL CITY — Royal scored once in each half to tie La Salle 2-2.

Luis Rodriguez gave the Knights a 1-0 lead in the first half and Alonso Hernandez added another in the second.

La Salle scored twice in the second half.

“There is no doubt that we are talented, but defense wins trophies and our communication, collective focus and defensive shape has not quite come together,” head coach Jens Jensen said.

Grandview 4, Othello 1

GRANDVIEW — Othello fell behind 2-0 at halftime and could not recover in a 4-1 loss at Grandview.

The Greyhounds’ Pedro Villanueva scored twice in the first half.

Baseball

Royal 5-9, Cashmere 3-5

ROYAL CITY — Royal swept Cashmere in a home doubleheader 5-3 and 9-5.

Sawyer Jenks was 3-for-3 with three RBIs in the opener. Jenks also struck out nine in four innings of relief.

Derek Bergeson homered in the night cap.

Othello 3, Ellensburg 0

ROYAL CITY — One way or another, the games need to be played.

Othello and Ellensburg met at David Nielsen Memorial in Royal City for a non-league contest and the Huskies won 3-0.

“We just totally dominated the midfield,” head coach Bernie Garza said.

The Huskies out-shot the Bulldogs 14-3. Christian Arvizu lit up the scoreboard in the first half; Spokane Community College commit Hilario Murillo and Pablo Ontiveros added second-half goals.

“We’re still figuring out our best lineup,” Garza said.

MATTAWA — Royal out-shot Wahluke 4-2 in penalties to win an early-season showdown 1-0

Tri-Cities Prep 6, Othello 3

PASCO — Othello led briefly against defending Class 2B champion Tri-Cities Prep but lost 6-3.

The Huskies scored once in the first inning before Tri-Cities Prep responded with four unanswered runs. Jay Rodriguez and Jaxon Rocha had one RBI apiece.

OTHELLO — Jonathan Garza pitched a no-hitter and Othello beat Wapato 12-0.

Garza struck out 10 Wolves in five innings of work. More, Garza helped his own cause with a double and two RBIs.

Nathan Garza, Rocha, Trey Garza and Jonathan Ozuna added two RBIs each.
