ML man arrested for third time while awaiting trial for overdose homicide

MOSES LAKE — A Moses Lake man previously facing charges in connection with the 2018 opioid overdose death of an inmate at the Grant County Jail was arrested Sunday in connection with a string of car prowls in Cascade Park. The arrest was his third since homicide charges were filed late last year.

Jordan Tebow, 35, of Moses Lake is facing charges of six counts of second-degree possession of stolen property, two counts of second-degree identity theft, two counts of first-degree trafficking of stolen property, and one count of third-degree possession of stolen property. He was also wanted on outstanding warrants related to third-degree driving while license suspended.

Arrested along with Tebow was Dustin Duville, 34, of Moses Lake, who is facing one count each of second-degree possession of stolen property, third-degree possession of stolen property, second-degree identity theft and second-degree trafficking of stolen property.

The charges stem from three car prowls in Cascade Park over the weekend, when Tebow and Duville allegedly stole credit cards, a phone and baseball equipment. The phone and some of the baseball equipment — which the men allegedly claimed had been given to them for one of their sons — were not recovered.

Police were alerted to the use of the stolen credit cards at a gas station and Walmart, racking up over $500 in charges. After reviewing surveillance footage, law enforcement reportedly tracked the pair’s car to their location on the 7000 block of Wild Goose Lane.

Tebow was already facing charges of controlled substances homicide, delivery of cocaine or heroin, intimidating a witness and possession of a controlled substance by a prisoner in the death of 34-year-old Soap Lake resident Derek Batton.

Batton was booked into the jail Aug. 10, a Friday, on various outstanding warrants and found dead in his bunk in the morning hours of Aug. 12, a Sunday. Investigators have claimed that Tebow was the one who smuggled the narcotics into the jail that Batton overdosed on, though Tebow has denied providing the drugs to Batton.

Tebow has developed a significant history with Grant County courts, including 10 criminal cases in Superior Court since 2004 and 57 cases in District Court since 2001. Since Tebow made bail in December 2018 for the controlled substance homicide case, he has been detained three times, including once in May for allegedly walking through courthouse security with heroin in his pocket.
