Pedestrian seriously injured in Ephrata collision

EPHRATA — A man from Moses Lake was seriously injured Monday night after he was struck by a vehicle as he was walking his dirt bike across a highway near Ephrata.

About 10:45 p.m. Jose Rodriguez, 35, of Ephrata, was driving a 2008 Ford Edge west on state Route 282 approaching Airport Road as Shawn McMorran, 45, of Moses Lake, was walking his dirt bike across SR-282. Rodriguez reportedly struck McMorran and his dirt bike in the westbound SR-282 lane and continued driving west.

McMorran was seriously injured in the collision and was initially transported to Samaritan Hospital in Moses Lake. He was later transferred to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. Rodriguez was eventually located by authorities and was booked into the Grant County Jail for investigation of vehicular assault and hit-and-run. The exact cause of the collision is under investigation.
