OTHELLO — The Othello Farmers Market will open for the season tomorrow from 3 to 7 p.m. at Pioneer Park.

The farmers market typically features fresh fruits and vegetables. Produce available each week varies depending on what is in season. Because of the late winter, produce is not coming in ready and as a result, the farmers market is starting later than usual this year.

“Crops are really late this year,” said Sharon Skorick, manager for the Othello Chamber of Commerce, the operators of the farmers market. “They don’t have all their crops.”

In addition to the farmers market, a business expo will be held each week. This year, it will include the Veterans of Foreign Wars, a licensed massage therapist and CG Styles, an Othello hair stylist. Columbia Basin Health Association (CBHA) will be handing out WIC farmers market checks tomorrow at the farmers market.

“They have done that the last couple of years,” Shorick said.

The Othello Farmers Market is a certified farmers market. It will be held every Thursday at Pioneer Park from 3 to 7 p.m. from July 18 to Oct. 24.

Anyone wishing to sell in either the farmers market or the business expo must register with the Othello Chamber of Commerce prior to their first start date. Space is free for the first week and $10 for each additional week. Vendors are required to have all the applicable permits.
