OTHELLO — The All City Car Classics Club will be holding its 24th annual Spud Run on Friday and Saturday, July 19 and 20. The car show kicks off Friday evening with a registration at 6 p.m. The Slow Drags start at 7 p.m. in front of Othello City Hall.

Slow drags is the name for the event where car owners compete to see who can coast closest to the line without going over or touching their breaks.

“They (the City of Othello) have allowed us to have a street blocked off on Friday evening,” said Stephen Agenbroad, one of the original members of the car show.

The cars will reassemble at Kiwanis Park on Saturday. Registration begins at 7 a.m. The car show typically draws 90 to 130 cars each year. The car show started 24 years ago when three couples went to a car show in Ephrata that was sponsored by All City Car Classics.

“We decided we wanted something here,” Agenbroad said. “We joined All City. It’s been going ever since. Three of the founding members have passed away, but we’re still holding on to the tradition.”

Instead of giving out trophies, plaques are given for first and second place.

“I think that distinguishes our show,” said Agenbroad.

They also donate back to charities in the community, such as the Adams County Pet Rescue, the Othello Food Bank and the Travelers Aid fund.

“The community comes and supports us pretty well,” Agenbroad said. “It doesn’t cost anything to come look at the cars.”

Visitors to the car show are asked to not touch the vehicles.

“It’s okay to look, but please don’t touch,” Agenbroad requested. “Some guys are very meticulous. They don’t want you touching their car.”

A Poker Run will be held at 2 p.m. The main car show will be held in Kiwanis Park. Registration begins at 7 a.m. Raffles, door prizes, T-shirts, food and music will be available throughout the day.
