OTHELLO — Othello senior Isaiah Perez attended his future alma mater Brigham Young University’s football camp for the third year in a row earlier this month, and was accompanied by his siblings as well. Perez’ younger sister, Ashley, and younger brother Mason both took part in camps on BYU’s campus, performing well.

The summer athletic camps at BYU provide young athletes of a wide-range of age groups the chance to practice, train, and compete with coaches and improve their skills during the day. At night, participants from each of the various sports camps come together for fun activities and events.

Ashley Perez, entering her sophomore year at Othello High School, took part in the basketball camp at BYU for the second straight year. Perez was part of the winning team in both the 5-on-5 and 3-on-3 team tournaments, while also winning a lay-up competition at the camp as well.

Mason Perez, going into seventh grade, took part in the football camp for the first time, with participants ranging from fourth to ninth grade. Perez took home an outstanding camper award from the camp, as well as being a finalist in a field goal competition, something Mason was especially proud of.

The senior and future Cougar, Isaiah, took home a defensive line MVP award in his third time attending the summer camps. Perez said he credits the great coaching and competition as helping to improve him as a football player in the off-season. Being around his future campus, Isaiah Perez said it’s a great chance to get to know coaches and some of his future teammates as well.

Going into his final year at Othello, Perez said he just looks to just be able to help his team to the best of his ability as they look to make a run late into the year.

“I want to be able to put us in a position to go as far as we can,” Isaiah Perez said.
