Quincy woman faces vehicular homicide charges in fatal crash

EPHRATA — A Quincy woman is facing charges of vehicular homicide for a severe rollover crash seven months ago which left a passenger dead and that sent sheriff’s deputies scrambling to locate the wreckage of her vehicle.

Angela Anaya, who was 48 at the time of the incident, was driving north June 3 on Road P Northwest in a 2011 Cadillac CTS at excessive speeds when she failed to negotiate a curve between Martin Road Northwest and Road 13 Northwest, rolling four times and traveling hundreds of feet off the roadway, according to police reports. Jose Lozano, also 48 at the time of the incident, died at the scene. Vehicle data indicated the vehicle was traveling over 100 mph, an official for the Grant County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday.

Anaya was injured but able to walk to her Quincy home, and she was then driven by a friend to Quincy Valley Medical Center, according to law enforcement. Anaya was later taken to a regional hospital for a skull fracture and other injuries caused by the accident, according to police reports.

Anaya told Quincy hospital staff that she had been in a collision near I-90 and Adams Road — almost 15 miles away from the actual incident — and did not indicate to responding deputies that there had been a passenger in the vehicle, according to police. Anaya reportedly appeared to be under the influence and smelled of alcohol at the Quincy hospital, a GCSO spokesman said.

Law enforcement spent over three hours searching for the collision, until a deputy happened to travel much further afield, almost 15 miles north, and discovered the wreckage of the Cadillac and the body of Lozano, who had been ejected some distance from the vehicle. He was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident, according to a police report.

Anaya’s bail was set Monday at $15,000.
