Police seeking help in Quincy bar shooting

QUINCY — A fight in the parking lot of Quincy’s Tikis Bar and Grill ended in gunshots being exchanged between those involved at around 1 a.m. Friday. No injuries were reported.

An unknown number of subjects fled the scene before officers with the Quincy Police Department responded early Friday morning to the incident. One suspect, 31-year-old Jose L. Contreras, was located and detained for unlawful possession of a firearm.

Investigating officers found a number of shells matching the caliber of gun in Contreras’ possession, but witnesses have indicated at least two firearms were involved, said QPD Chief Kieth Siebert. No damage from stray bullets was found by law enforcement.

“This situation could have been much worse and we are very lucky nobody was hurt,” Capt. Ryan Green said in a statement Friday.

Contreras did not immediately cooperate with police, and it is unclear what initially caused the fight, Siebert said. Anyone with information about the incident or the people involved is encouraged to contact the QPD at 509-787-4718.
