Royal unbeaten
Royal blasted American Potato, 28-0, in women’s softball action earlier this week. Royal boosted its record to 3-0 with the win.
Rhonda Brown was the winning pitcher, tossing a three-hit shutout.
Barb Strecker led the winners with a home run and Stacey Villegas, Patty Shearrer, Jan Ling and Judy Martin each had three hits. Margo Torrez and Verna Craighead pitched for the losers.
The Royal team completed in a Yakima tournament last weekend. Royal lost its first game, 7-1, won their second game by a 17-11 margin, but then lost, 7-4, to be eliminated from the tourney.
Laundromat turns into a car wash
Persons washing clothes at the House Laundry, 406 E. Broadway, were suddenly interrupted Thursday.
A vehicle driven by Elsa Martinez, 21, Warden, was accidentally driven through the wall and window of the building into the laundry.
Police said Martinez turned right into Broadway Extended, hit the accelerator instead of the brake pedal and went flying into the wall.
There was $2,500 damage to Martinez’s sedan and $5,000 damage to the wall, they said.
Guadeloupe Vela, who was washing clothes at the time of the accident, suffered cuts from broken glass and was treated at the scene.
Men’s slo-pitch
Olympia defeated Olympic Drug, 14-12, in men’s slo-pitch softball action Thursday night.
Brian Wilson and Jack Hedgecock teamed to pitch the win, with Brian Adair catching. Felix Alvarez and Rick Anderson pitched for the losers, with Rod Garrison catching.
Adair led Olympia with five RBIs on a double and two singles. Benny Rodriquez, Kyle Adair and Hedgecock each had doubles while Frank Rightmire and Mike Munson each had two singles.
Bruce Lindell had a triple for Olympic Drug. Scores were not reported on Thursday’s scheduled slo-pitch contest between Pay’N Pak and Community Action.
Eagles win, 4-3
The Eagles Lodge edge Mathews Steel, 4-3, Wednesday night at Larson Field.
Micky Larson was the winning pitcher. He struck out 10, walked six and gave up four hits. Mark Wilson caught.
Steve Hancock and Gilbert Perales made up the Mathew Steel battery. Hancock struck out 14, walked six and gave up three hits. Henry Alvarado, Wilson and Eddie VanVelkinburgh each singled for the winners.
Vandervelbon singled and doubled for Mathews and Ray Parkinson and Cunnington each singled.
