Levy pamphlet due at Royal
A levy pamphlet explaining the March 10 Royal School District special levy was approved Tuesday by the school board and will be made available to the public. The board will make a final decision on the school calendar at the next regular meeting on Feb. 17.
The board learned enrollment for the district is 646, down from 654 at the beginning of the school year.
A one-year leave of absence was granted to Sherrie Jones, Red Rock Elementary School music teacher.

Fish funds for firemen
Moses Lake volunteer firemen have found a fishy way to raise money for new fire equipment.
The Moses Lake Fire Department and Volunteers are sponsoring a truckload seafood sale this month.
Anyone wishing to support the fund-raising effort can order salmon, halibut, ling cod, crab, shrimp, lobster tails and walleye fillets.
Firemen need your orders by May 20. A trans Alaska truck and trailer will deliver the orders at the corner of Broadway and Balsam June 3.
“People can buy the seafood without orders on June 3,” said Fire Chief Russ Beeman. “But the department gets more of the proceeds if you place your order before May 20.”
The truck will be parked behind Skaug Brothers June 3 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Firemen have started distributing order forms in the community. Anyone interested in obtaining the forms should contact the fire department at 765-3811.
Royal Rooster gutted by fire
Fire gutted the east end of Ed’s Royal Rooster east of Moses Lake Tuesday afternoon, Fire District Five firemen said today.
Firemen received the fire call at 4:30 p.m. Cause of the fire is under investigation today by the Grant Fire Marshal’s Office.
Firemen fought the blaze more than two hours. More than one-third of the structure was consumed in flames. Damage estimates will be available after the investigation.

Tryouts to open
Tryouts for the annual Dinner Theater, Nov. 12-13 at Big Bend Community College will be Wednesday, said Steve Hanson, director.
The play, “The Mice Have Been Drinking,” features a cost of four. Two young men and two young women are sought for parts in the American comedy.
Tryouts will be at 3:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. in room 1412, the Administration and Social Science Building, on the BBCC campus. Those interested do not have to be enrolled at BBCC.

Advisory group begins meets
The first Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) meeting of the Migrant Education Program will be 7:30 p.m. today, at Garden Heights Elementary School, said Jim Adamson, program director.
Parents attending will be informed of qualifications and purposes of the program serving students, as well as the means by which program goals will be accomplished, he said. Staff members also will be introduced.
While most of the program will be conducted in Spanish, interpreters will present for the meeting, which is open to the public.
Staff members of the Moses Lake district’s migrant program include Alfredo Castillo, certificated teacher; Mrs. Emma Garcia, aide; Mrs. Dora Hutchcroft, records clerk; Mrs. Catarina Longoria, home visitor; and Mrs. Leona Dickey, nurse.
Float planning to begin
Plans for the 1977 Moses Lake community float will be discussed at 8 p.m. today by the Moses Lake Float and Festival Committee.
The public session will be at Eastern Washington State Bank and interested persons are invited, said Pam Jones, MLFFC member.
Faye Maslen, president, said co-chairmen of the float will be Mick and Judy Hansen.
Delegates return
Mrs. Annie Marks and Mrs. Enid Clay were delegates to the Pacific Northwest Conference of United Methodist Women at Everett. Also attending from Moses Lake was Mrs. Mavis Scott, secretary of program resources for the Columbia River District of United Methodist Women.
Member hosts formal dinner
Alpha Tau chapter of Beta Sigma Phi held its preceptor night at the home of Mrs. Howard Copenhaver.
She was hostess for a formal dinner where gifts were exchanged and Beta buddies for the preceding year were revealed. New buddies also were chosen for the coming year.
After the business meeting the preceptor ritual was given for Mrs. Merle Armstrong. The ceremony was conducted by Mrs. Richard Lowther, with assistance from Copenhaver and Hazel Gerber.
Members will have a rummage sale 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 15 and 16 at the former Herald Building on Third Avenue.
