RITZVILLE — Adams County Sheriff Dale Wagner has just added his name to the number of Eastern Washington law enforcement agency heads who “will not enforce I-1639 as it is currently written,” according to a Facebook post to the agency’s page.

Wagner joins Klickitat County Sheriff Bob Songer, Republic Police Chief Loren Culp and Wahkiakum County Sheriff Mark Howie in refusing to enforce the gun control regulations imposed by the citizens’ initiative.

The initiative, which passed last November with almost 60 percent of the vote, implements background checks and waiting periods for purchasing certain semi-automatic rifles and increased the minimum age to buy the same semi-automatic rifles to 21. The measure also established firearm storage requirements.

“Those who live and reside in Adams County have made this very clear in how we voted this last election with an overwhelming percentage against I-1639,” Wagner wrote.
