Woman sentenced to 10 days for attempted burglary

Also forced to relinquish guns

EPHRATA — An Ephrata woman pleaded guilty last week to attempting to break into the home of a man she did not know. The woman was intoxicated and erroneously claimed that the resident had stolen her firearms.

Sharon Marie Waters, 40, of Ephrata, pleaded guilty to attempted residential burglary and violation of a court order. She was sentenced to 10 days in jail with credit for time served and ordered to pay $2,000 in restitution to the victim, just over half of what the victim had requested, court records show.

Police responded to the 500 block of Banks Avenue in Grand Coulee for a report that Waters was causing a disturbance at a residence. The victim said he had been playing video games when Waters, whom he did not know, started yelling at him and accusing him of stealing her guns, according to police reports.

The victim called the police, but Waters had left the area by the time they arrived. When officers cleared the scene, however, Waters returned, picking up a large rock and throwing it through the victim’s double-paned window.

Waters then attempted to climb in through the broken window, before falling down and yelling further about her missing guns. When police arrived for a second time, they found blood “all over the window and inside the threshold and on the porch.” Waters, who was found just outside of the residence, was “obviously intoxicated,” according to police.

In addition to jail time and fines, Waters was ordered to surrender all firearms due to her felony conviction.
