Some 2019 hunting seasons closing

The year’s end is four days away, not counting today. Next Tuesday, Dec. 31, will be the last day of the hunting season for several species including forest grouse. Through Tuesday, the legal limit is four of any species, to include not more than three of each species.

Also: For fall turkey in Game Management Units 101 through 154, and 162 through 186 the limit is two beardless and two either-sex turkeys.

This means a hunter with four tags could bag four beardless turkeys or two with beards and two without. The four-month season will also end next Tuesday.

Several more hunting seasons will continue. These include:

Quail and partridge: The quail and Hun season continue through Jan. 20. The quail daily limit is 10. The partridge daily limit is six chukar and six Huns per day. The Huns are also called gray partridge, but are referred to as Hungarian partridge, thus the Hun or Huns designation.

Duck: The duck hunting season continues through Jan. 26.

Goose: The goose hunting season continues through Jan. 26, with the season open on Saturdays, Sundays and Wednesdays only through Jan. 19. Then the season is open every day Jan. 20 through Jan. 26. Additional days include today, Dec. 27, Dec. 30 and Dec. 31.

New this year is a Feb. 22 through March 4 hunt for white geese, also known as snow geese. The limit will be six per day.

There is also a special one-day hunt Feb. 1 for geese. This will be explained in a future report.

Pheasant: The pheasant season continues through Jan. 20, 2020.
