MOSES LAKE — The Moses Lake boys swim and dive team came out on top in their dual meet with West Valley (Yakima) on Thursday. The Chiefs took the overall win with a score of 142-33 over the Rams.

Moses Lake swept all relay events for the afternoon. Dylan Bond, Zachary Washburn, Cole Lindberg and Ryan Jorgensen took the 200 medley relay. Lindberg, Bond, Washburn and Issac Patten came out on top of the 200-yard freestyle relay. Jorgensen, Patten, Tanner Patten and Nicholas Moore would grab first in the 400 freestyle relay.

Chandler Boston grabbed the top spot in diving, with Moses Lake’s Jace Truman and Gavin Bingham following in second and third.

In individual events, Zach Washburn took first place in both the 200 individual medley and the 500 freestyle. Cole Lindberg grabbed the top spot in both the 100 butterfly and the 100 backstroke. Dylan Bond grabbed first in the 50 freestyle as well as taking second place in the 100 butterfly.

Ryan Jorgensen took third in both the 50 and 100-yard freestyle events. Nicholas Moore finished second in the 200 freestyle while taking third in the 500. Issac Patten grabbed second place in both the 100 freestyle and 100 backstroke for the Chiefs.

Still very early in the season, Moses Lake head coach Tony St. Onge said before Thursday’s match this has been a great group of guys to work with.

“I can honestly say that you ask them to do something, they jump right on it,” St. Onge said. “I like to see those things early in the season because that lays down the bricks for success later in the season.”

One of the holes the Chiefs are working to fill after last season is the void left by losing the members of the State champion relay team.

“It’s a fight right now to see who will get on those relays,’ St. Onge said. “I’m hoping the competitiveness inside them will bring out a couple guys to fill in those spots.”

The Chiefs head coach said the goal right now is qualifying all three relay teams before Districts. Early on, St. Onge said the main thing he’s looking for from his team is competitiveness, and competitive times.

“We’ve been in the top five, six teams in the state the past several years, you kind of get used to it,” St. Onge said. “But we’ve got a ways to go to get there. To even be in that top 15, we’ve got a ways to go. So a couple of guys have to step up big to get there.”

Next up for Moses Lake will be a match against Wenatchee at home on Saturday, beginning at 11 a.m.
