MOSES LAKE — With the state legislature set to convene this January, legislators are looking for a few interested high school students to help them do their work.

In a statement released Wednesday, Rep. Tom Dent, R-Moses Lake, is encouraging area high school students to apply for the Washington State House of Representatives Page Program.

“If you talk with my students who have taken the opportunity to page, they will tell you what a great experience it is,” Dent said. “The page program has been in existence for more than 125 years. If there are students out there who want to page, or parents who are interested in having their student page, I urge them to get their applications in soon.”

Applicants must be between 14 and 16, must have a legislative sponsor and must get written permission to participate in the program from their parents and from their school.

The state legislature convenes on Monday, Jan. 20, 2020, for a scheduled 60-day session.

According to Dent, pages deliver documents and messages to and between members of the state Legislature and their staff, as well as distribute bills, amendments and other important papers during floor debates.

They also do some ceremonial tasks, such as present the flags.

Legislative pages are paid $35 per day for their work.

Anyone interested in the program can contact Dent’s office at 509-766-6525 or tom.dent@leg.wa.gov, or at the Washington State House of Representatives website. Application are available at the legislative web site from app.leg.wa.gov/PageApplication.
