Big Bend women unable to rally late against Whatcom

PUYALLUP — Big Bend women’s basketball dropped its second game of the season, losing a tight contest to Whatcom 89-84.

Whatcom held Big Bend at bay for most of the fourth quarter to hold on for the win. Kaitlyn Callahan tied the game, 62-62, with a jump shot in the fourth quarter, however, the Vikings were unable to take the lead. Whatcom led by as much as nine points in the fourth quarter, in what was a narrow margin for most of the game.

The Orcas started the game on an 8-0 before the Vikings battled back and took a first-quarter lead on a Kelsey Sorenson jump shot. Danielle Tyler sunk a 3-pointer at the end of the first quarter to give Whatcom a 19-18 lead. Big Bend led for most of the second quarter before, once again, Tyler hit a jumper to pull the Orcas ahead. Tyler finished with a game-high 32 points. Anna Yarbro led the Vikings with 22 points on 90 percent shooting.
