Boys basketball (Saturday)

Moses Lake 80, Davis 69

YAKIMA — Moses Lake picked an opportune time for its first win of the season, defeating Davis 80-69 in its Columbia Basin Big Nine opener.

Kyle Karstetter’s 23 led four Chiefs in double figures. Logan Sperline added 19 points, Dax Lindgren 13 and Marshall Tibbs 14. The Chiefs outscored the Pirates 24-12 in the fourth quarter.

Selah 61, Ephrata 57

EPHRATA — Ephrata could not upset Selah and lost 61-57.

The Tigers led 36-32 at halftime before being outscored in the third and fourth quarters. Kyle Hendrick led the Tigers with 18 points and Jayce Moore had 11.

Noah Pepper paced the Vikings with a double-double of 26 points and 10 rebounds.

Grandview 58, Othello 44

GRANDVIEW — Freshman Julian Alegria scored nine points and Othello lost at Grandview 58-44.

The Greyhounds led by nine points at halftime and continued to build their lead in the second half. Nate Garza led Grandview with 15 points.

Prosser 86, Quincy 52

QUINCY — Quincy could not hang onto a 13-13 tie after one quarter and lost to Prosser 86-52.

The Mustangers erupted for 31 points in the second quarter to gain traction. Aidan Heikes scored a team-high 16 points and Joahan Fregoso scored 14.

Royal 74, Highland 24

ROYAL CITY — Fresh off a football state championship, Royal started its hardwood season dominant with a lopsided win over Highland 74-24.

Derek Bergeson led all scorers with 18 points.

Girls basketball (Saturday)

Selah 45, Ephrata 21

EPHRATA — Ephrata was held to single-digit scoring in every quarter and lost to Selah 45-21.

Hayden Mills scored a team-high nine points.

Grandview 62, Othello 38

GRANDVIEW — Othello was outscored 36-22 in the second half and lost to Grandview 62-38.

Alexis Coronado scored eight points for the Huskies.

Prosser 73, Quincy 41

QUINCY — Quincy fell behind quickly and lost to Prosser 73-41.

Jackie Dearie scored 21 of Quincy’s 41 points. Jane Kennedy added 11 points.

Royal 65, Highland 24

ROYAL CITY — Josie Phillips scored 24 points and Royal routed Highland 65-24.

The Knights held the Scotties to 13 points over the final three quarters.

Boys basketball (Friday)

Ephrata 69, Wapato 53

WAPATO — Moore scored 22 points and Ephrata cruised by Wapato 69-53.

The Tigers were outscored in only one quarter — one point in the third — to methodically build a lead over the course of the game. Boe Hesse and Hendrick chipped in 14 and 12 points, respectively.

East Valley 69, Othello 50

OTHELLO — Othello struggled in the second and fourth quarters in a 69-50 loss to East Valley.

The Huskies led by one point after one quarter before surrendering a 16-6 run in the second. Alegria scored a team-high 12 points.

The Red Devils were led by 21 points from Jace Durand.

Grandview 78, Quincy 51

GRANDVIEW — Heikes scored 17 points for Quincy in a 78-51 loss to Grandview.

Trey Bierlink added 14 points for the Jacks.

Warden 54, Mabton 49

WARDEN — Warden held off Mabton in the fourth quarter to win 54-49.

The Cougars created separation in the middle quarters, outscoring the Vikings 28-10. Michael Egia scored 14 points and Kaden Skone added 12.

Naches Valley 80, Wahluke 38

NACHES — The Rangers raced to an early lead and Wahluke lost 80-38.

Naches Valley led 23-9 after one quarter and never let up. Alan Contreras led the Warriors with eight points.

Almira/Coulee-Hartline 50, Wellpinit 41

WELLPINIT — Almira/Coulee-Hartline withstood a Wellpinit rally and won 50-41.

Chase Gerard made five 3-pointers and scored 17 points.

OTHELLO — Coronado scored 10 points and Othello lost to 53-32.

WELLPINIT — A six-point second quarter doomed Almira/Coulee-Hartline in a loss to Wellpinit 58-54.

Makenna Oliver paced the Warriors with 14 points.

MOSES LAKE — Maelyn Mace scored 16 points and Big Bend beat Northwest All-Stars 71-32.

Former Big Bend player and cancer survivor Elizabeth Larrew scored 13 points for the Northwest All-Stars.
