Quincy man sentenced to three months for domestic violence
A Quincy man pleaded guilty to third-degree domestic violence assault after reportedly kicking in the front door to his victim’s residence, grabbed her by the neck and punched her in the face several times, knocking her unconscious.
David Segura Lopez, 33, was sentenced to three months in county jail, after entering an Alford plea, not admitting guilt but entering a plea due to a belief that he would lose if the case went to trial, court documents show.
Officers had originally recommended more severe charges against Lopez, including two counts of first-degree burglary and a count of first-degree robbery, but prosecutors only brought charges of second-degree domestic violence assault and interfering with the reporting of domestic violence.
That last charge was added after officers learned that Lopez had left the scene with the victim’s cell phone, but the presiding judge dismissed that charge, saying the victim could have used another person’s phone.
Shortly after the highly-publicized Washington-bred apple variety “Cosmic Crisp” was introduced, the Washington Apple Commission is proposing a new license plate emblazoned with a russet red apple.
The bill was pre-filed by State Sen. Brad Hawkins, R-East Wenatchee, and has shown wide support across both sides of the aisle, with 20 bipartisan co-sponsors.
The plate would feature the Washington apple logo and the slogan, “World’s Finest Apples.”
“I’m a big supporter of Washington apples and believe this bill will bring awareness to the industry and help raise money for scholarships,” Hawkins stated. “The Washington Apple Commission and Washington Apple Education Foundation do great work, so I am excited to partner with them on what should certainly be a well-supported bill. I don’t expect controversy but passing anything in a short session is a challenge.”
