Moses Lake wrestling loses close dual at No. 2 Sunnyside

SUNNYSIDE — It’s always a raucous environment when Moses Lake and Sunnyside meet on the mat, and Wednesday night was no different.

In a gym so rowdy the referee had to tell spectators to back up, Sunnyside prevailed in a down-to-the-wire dual 38-30. The Grizzlies won eight matches to the Chiefs’ six.

“I think this is a great lesson to take back home and we need to increase the intensity,” head coach Jaime Garza said.

Hunter White scored the signature win of the night, defeating Sunnyside’s Fabian Ortega. White was on the wrong end of three matches against Ortega last season, including a loss at last year’s Mat Classic.

Jonathan Tanguma, Cruz Vasquez and Maximus Zamora all scored wins. The Chiefs also received pins from Everett Ashley and heavyweight Saul Villa.
