Tip-a-Cop: Law enforcement to serve diners at Rock Top Thursday

MOSES LAKE — Diners walking into Rock Top Burgers and Brew Thursday shouldn’t be alarmed by police activity in the restaurant — Santa, who will also be in attendance, isn’t in any trouble.

No, instead, members of the Moses Lake Police Department and Grant County Sheriff’s Office will be waiting on tables and serving buddy cop burgers Thursday for this year’s annual Tip-a-Cop event. Uniformed law enforcement will be in attendance from 5:30-7:30 p.m.

All tips from the event each year help pay for the agencies’ respective Shop With A Cop program, in which officers go shopping for Christmas toys with kids from underserved families that are nominated by area schools and churches.

This year’s event comes with a side of friendly competition, with the restaurant seeing whether Chief Kevin Fuhr or Sheriff Tom Jones sells the most burgers by Thursday night.

Fuhr and the police department will be hoping to win diners over with the Hobbs burger, which comes with bacon, pastrami, havarti cheese, Thousand Island dressing, lettuce and tomato. Jones and the sheriff’s office hopes to make a counteroffer with the Shaw burger, which comes with secret sauce, pepper jack, fried pickle chips, tomato and onion in a fluffy potato bun.

The burgers are named after “Hobbs and Shaw,” a recently-released action and adventure movie featuring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as lawman Luke Hobbs and Jason Statham as lawless operative Deckard Shaw. The burgers are only available for a limited time, being this month’s specials.

According to staff at Rock Top, sales for the two burgers are still closely tied. The winner claims bragging rights during dinner Thursday.
