Prep roundup: Moses Lake girls stifle Kamiakin in win

KENNEWICK — Moses Lake clamped down defensively to beat Kamiakin 64-22.

The Braves, using a press, went up 12-4 early before their offense was ground to a screeching halt. The Chiefs held the home team scoreless in the third quarter and yielded only 10 more points after the Braves’ initial run.

“When it wasn’t a full-court game it was definitely our advantage,” head coach Matt Strophy said.

Camille Carpenter and Anna Olson hounded Kamiakin’s freshmen guards. Offensively, Moses Lake knocked down 11 3-pointers; Madisyn Clark led in scoring with 22 points and six made from distance.

Quincy 41, Wahluke 30

MATTAWA — Jane Kennedy scored 17 points and Quincy held off Wahluke 41-30.

The Jacks focused on reaching the free throw line, taking over 30 foul shots in the game. Jackie Dearie added 12 points to complement Kennedy.

Wellpinit 55, Moses Lake Christian Academy 31

WELLPINIT — Moses Lake Christian managed seven points in the first half and lost to Wellpinit 55-31.

Deana Gulenko and Makiya Kast led the Lions with nine points each.

Lind-Ritzville/Sprague 49, Oakesdale 47

OAKESDALE — Lind-Ritzville/Sprague withstood a late rally to win at Oakesdale 49-47.

The Broncos were outscored 15-10 in the fourth quarter after leading by seven. Janaye Wilkie and Jessie Reed scored 15 and 14 points, respectively.

POST FALLS, Idaho — Moses Lake fell to 0-4 after a 87-61 loss at Post Falls.

Logan Sperline scored a team-high 12 points.

Ephrata 73, Connell 41

CONNELL — Jayce Moore scored a game-high 19 points and Ephrata routed Connell 73-41.

Every Tiger that played scored a point, including 11 each from Kyle Hendrick and Boe Hesse.

The Tigers led 24-11 after one quarter and 42-20 at halftime.

Pullman 62, Othello 33

PULLMAN — Othello could not overcome an early deficit and lost to Pullman 62-33.

The Huskies trailed 36-18 at halftime. Patrick Azevedo scored 14 points and Jorge Buenrostro added 11.

Warden 73, Columbia 52

WARDEN — Warden outscored Columbia 21-4 in the second quarter to pull away and win 73-52.

“We rebounded way better in the second quarter,” head coach Wes Richins said.

Michael Egia scored a game-high 17 points; Kaden Skone added 15 points, 12 rebounds and six assists. Oziel Martinez and Kyler Cox scored 11 points each.

Wellpinit 84, Moses Lake Christian Academy 48

WELLPINIT — Moses Lake Christian fell behind 24-2 after one quarter and lost to Wellpinit 84-48.

Pierre Boorman scored 28 points to lead the Lions.

Oakesdale 56, Lind-Ritzville/Sprague 45

OAKESDALE — Lind-Ritzville/Sprague was outscored 20-11 in the fourth quarter and lost to Oakesdale 56-45.
