Maria Olga Hickman

Maria Olga Hickman was born in Santa Rita, New Mexico on Oct. 26, 1926 to Ambrosio and Francisca Rodriguez. She is survived by her brother Ralph and sisters Helen and Martha. Olga, as she was known, was preceded in death by her beloved husband Tom, son Sam and sister Grace.

Olga graduated from San Fernando High School in 1945 and from Los Angeles City College with an Associates in Arts on Jan. 13, 1948.

Olga met the love of her life, Thomas J. Hickman, at a USO dance; they were later married on Oct. 4, 1952. They lived in California and Washington due to Tom’s job as an air traffic controller. They raised five children: Tommy, Maria, Raul, Sam and Patrick.

Olga and Tom owned and operated several businesses, rental houses, a 20-acre apple orchard and an 87-acre alfalfa farm while working full time and raising children. Olga worked several jobs: Lockheed Martin, hospital admitting, hospital interpretation, chiropractic receptionist, substitute teacher, shift work at Carnation corporation and receptionist at Yakima Mental Health.

Olga was very involved in the Moses Lake Art Club for many years, and had many art shows selling several watercolor and acrylic paintings.

Olga is survived by her children Tom (Leanne), Maria (Glenn), Raul (Diana) and Patrick (Debie); grandchildre: John, Matt (Brianne), Tina (Gary), Ben (Simeon), Nick, Jessica (Dallas) and Rochelle (Nick) and great-grandchildren Westley, Grant, Logan, Isaac, Faith, Seth, Cameron, Mason, Jared, Gavin, London and Nixon.

A rosary will be held Thursday, Dec. 19, 2019 at 7 p.m. at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Ephrata, Washington. There will be a visitation on Friday, Dec. 20, 2019 at 12 p.m. at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Ephrata, Washington followed by a funeral mass starting at 1 p.m. Interment will follow at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Cemetery, Ephrata, Washington.
