EPHRATA — Ephrata boys basketball has been known to play with pace and rain jumpers on its opponents.

However, Tuesday night it was defense the helped Ephrata win its opener against Cashmere 50-34.

“To hold these guys in the 30s is really impressive,” head coach Brandon Evenson said.

Cashmere — fresh off scoring 74 points against Class 4A Eastmont — was held to nine second-half points. The Tigers used an 18-3 third quarter to erase a 25-20 halftime deficit.

Jayce Moore scored a team-high 12 points and Kyle Hendrick added nine with, according to his coach, double digit rebounds.

Kennedy drained four 3-pointers and added eight rebounds; Jackie Dearie scored four points with nine rebounds to complement Kennedy.
