Local food and clothing drive successful

MOSES LAKE — A 2,000 square foot room was filled with donated food and clothes at The Home Center in Moses Lake for Neighbors Helping Neighbors, Paying It Forward for the Month of November, a month-long food and clothing drive organized by KDRM/KBSN Radio and Roger McSteen, owner of The Home Center.

Firefighters with the Moses Lake Fire Department’s B-shift were in attendance for the drive’s closing day Saturday, showing their support and meeting with people as they dropped off donations. The fire department and Moses Lake Police Department have been making similar visits throughout the month, said local radio host Dale Roth in an interview.

The distribution of donations is being organized by local minister Lupe Hernandez, who will be coordinating with area churches and local non-profit Serve Moses Lake to get the goods to families in need. An initial surplus of donated goods already went out earlier this month, Roth said.

With such a successful project, Roth said he was encouraged that the drive will return in coming years.

“I just want to thank everyone in the community for their overwhelming help with this, making it such a big success,” Roth said.
