WARDEN — The Warden Assembly church congregation is looking for volunteer barbers and donations of school supplies for its second back-to-school event for Warden kids. The “Back 2 School” event is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 23 at the Warden school cafeteria. Organizers also are asking for volunteers willing to help before, during and after the event.
Monetary donations also are being accepted for people who want to help but haven’t shopped for school supplies lately. Along with the haircuts and school supplies for kids who need them, volunteers will be serving hot dogs, said church pastor Rick Garcia.
Organizers are looking for donations of three-ring binders (one inch wide), markers and colored pencils, glue sticks, pencils and erasers, college-rule paper, kid scissors and pencil sharpeners, among other things.
Garcia is a veteran of the back-to-school events sponsored by the Serve Moses Lake organization, and when he became pastor in Warden he took the idea with him, he said in an earlier interview. “We said, ‘hey, why don’t we do that in Warden?’”
Donations can be dropped off at the church, 416 S. Oak Ave., by arrangement. People who want to donate can contact the church, 509-349-2091, or infowardenassembly@gmail.com.
