Othello museum to host special children's program

OTHELLO — School starts in Othello on Aug. 22. With the older kids leaving home every day, younger sibling may feel left out. The Othello Community Museum wants to help.

Do you have a preschooler or kindergarten age child? Bring them to the museum at 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 22, for a special presentation just for them.

Children are invited to spend some time at the museum’s school display to learn how different school was 100 years ago. Board president Eric Morgan, who attended a one-room schoolhouse when he was a child, will lead the discussion.

This free presentation is the final course in the 2019 Othello Community Museum’s children’s programs. Earlier this summer, the board hosted classes about area birds, journaling and antique farm equipment.

There is also a scavenger hunt available at the museum. Children can browse through the different displays to find the items in the hunt and receive a prize.

More classes will be offered next summer and anyone who would like a brochure can email othellomuseum@yahoo.com.

The Othello Community Museum, located at Third Avenue and Larch Street, is open from 1 to 5 Saturdays during June through September.

To close out the season, the museum will have a program on Saturday, Sept. 28, about some of the myths, legends and stories of early Othello. If you know of any stories, please let us know.

Also, although the museum is only open on Saturdays, the building is available for groups or families to visit during other hours. You can make an appointment by contacting Morgan at 509-346-3823.
