South County roundup: Othello baseball blows out Prosser

Othello 11, Prosser 1

OTHELLO — Othello led 8-0 after one inning and beat Prosser 11-1.

Jaxon Rocha hit an RBI single in the fifth inning to end the game. Rocha also pitched three and one-third innings with five strikeouts.

Ellensburg 13, Othello 1

ELLENSBURG — Ellensburg pounded out 20 hits and beat Othello 13-1.

The second game was postponed due to inclement weather.

Jonathan Garza drove in Othello’s lone run.

Kiona-Benton 5, Royal 2

ROYAL CITY — Royal fell to Kiona-Benton 5-2 after allowing four runs in the fifth inning.

The Bears managed only one hit, but took advantage of four errors by the Knights.

Royal 6-6, College Place 2-1

ROYAL CITY — Royal picked up a pair of wins against College Place 6-2 and 6-1.

The Knights rallied from a brief 1-0 deficit in the opener with five runs in the first inning. Kevin Reyes doubled and had one RBI.

Tyler Allred tripled in Game 2 and Sawyer Jenks struck out nine in five innings.

Boys soccer

Othello 5, Connell 1

CONNELL — Christian Arvizu recorded a hat trick and Othello rallied by Connell in a non-league game 5-1.

Initially, the Eagles took a 1-0 lead in the 10th minute on a 40-yard blast over the Huskie goalkeeper’s head. However, from then it was all red.

Arvizu scored twice in the first half, finishing well-placed balls from Carlos Murillo and Bernie Garza Jr. Garza Jr. assisted one more time on a second-half goal by Damon Valencia before Arvizu completed his hat trick.

Carlos Murillo added one more goal with 10 seconds to play in regulation.

Head coach Bernie Garza Sr. highlighted the defensive play of Jovani Espindola and Isai Lopez.

“It’s nice to have where you can make mistakes and the defense bails you out,” Garza Sr. said.

ROYAL CITY — Luis Rodriguez scored twice and Royal beat Connell 5-0.

The Knights led 2-0 at halftime and Uriel Garcia scored seconds into the second half. Alonso Hernandez and Angel Vega added one goal each.

Othello 18, Cheney 7

OTHELLO — Othello overcame a 7-0 deficit to beat Cheney 18-7.

The Huskies tied the game in the third inning and pulled away with an 11-run fourth inning.

Maya Valdez was 3-for-3 with a double. Emily Garza, Ori Vasquez, Ashley Garza, Nerissa Vasquez and Jazlyhn Verduzco finished with two hits each.
