From the CBH on Aug. 15, 1979:

Fuel spills into creek

Grant County has its own oil spill forming an oil slick on county waters this morning.

A sheriff’s spokesman reported a truck had tipped over at Crab Creek, spilling considerable oil into the creek.

The semi-tractor tipped over where Crab Creek crosses under Highway 26, west of Othello, said Mili Jones of the Grant County Emergency Services office.

The oil was spilling from the truck’s fuel tanks, and Jones emphasized that it was not a tanker truck. A crew from Spokane was brought out to help clean up the oil slick.

Moses Lake native axed by Philly

Moses Lake native Eric Johnson is looking for a new team.

Johnson, a former football player at Moses Lake High School, Washington State University and the now defunct World Football League, was cut Tuesday by the Philadelphia Eagles of the National Football League.

Johnson was signed by the Eagles as a free agent at the start of the 1977 NFL season. He played defensive safety for the Eagles and was a member of the Eagles’ special teams.
