South county roundup: Wahluke softball holds off Class 2A Quincy

Wahluke 8, Quincy 7

QUINCY — Wahluke held off a late Quincy rally to win 8-7.

The Jacks scored four runs in the third inning and threatened to take the lead in the seventh inning before the Warriors were able to retire the side.

Wahluke starter Sujeli Ruvalcaba struck out seven and Carolina Tirado was 2-for-4 with six stolen bases.

Othello 12, Toppenish 2

TOPPENISH — Othello led 6-0 after one inning and blew out Toppenish 12-2.

Nate Garza tripled and had two RBIs. Trey Garza doubled and was 2-for-2 with two RBIs and two runs scored.

Sebastian Munoz struck out eight batters in four innings.

Softball

Ephrata 9, Royal 0

ROYAL CITY — Jocelyn Eisen pitched a no-hitter and Ephrata shut out Royal 9-0.

The Tigers jumped out to a 5-0 lead after one inning. Eisen helped her own cause at the plate, finishing 2-for-5 with a double.

Kylar Heston homered and Paige Davis doubled. Crystal Vela, Paige Wood and Kamryn Shannon added one hit each.

Boys soccer

Othello 7, Prosser 0

OTHELLO — Juan Tapia recored a hat trick and Othello beat Prosser 7-0.

The Huskies led 5-0 at halftime and scored their first three goals within the first 15 minutes of the match.

Bernie Garza Jr. added two goals and three assists; Naudys Borrero and Damon Valencia scored once each.

Othello 13-10, Wenatchee 3-3

OTHELLO — Othello picked up two wins against Class 4A Wenatchee 13-3 and 10-3.

The doubleheader sweep brought head coach Rudy Ochoa’s win total to 502. Ochoa reached the 500-win mark after wins against Pullman earlier in the week.

Emily Garza was 4-for-4 with two doubles and a home run in the opener.

Boys soccer

Othello 3, Ephrata 0

EPHRATA — Bernie Garza Jr. scored twice and Othello beat Ephrata 3-0, improving to 2-0 in Central Washington Athletic Conference play.

Garza scored once in the first half and once in the second half. Christian Arvizu chipped in another second-half goal for the Huskies.

OTHELLO — Othello split with East Valley, losing the opener 3-2 before routing the Red Devils in the second game 11-1.

The Huskies fell behind 3-2 after three innings and could not manage another run to tie or possibly take the lead.

Jay Rodriguez was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and four RBIs in the night cap.

Royal 11-4, Kiona-Benton 5-4

BENTON CITY — Royal defeated Kiona-Benton 11-5 in Game 1 of a road doubleheader.

The second game ended tied 4-4 in the seventh inning and will resume on April 9.

Kevin Reyes doubled and drove in two runs in the opener. The Knights notched 12 hits and scored the first six runs of the game.

Softball

Naches Valley 14-14, Royal 7-9

NACHES — Royal softball was swept at Naches Valley 14-7 and 14-9.

The Rangers’ Cienna Gunter hit a grand slam in Game 2.
