YAKIMA — The Royal High School Dance Team competed in state competition on March 22 at the Yakima Valley Sundome.

“We didn’t place as high as we would’ve liked,” said Makynlee Miller, Royal High School Dance Team coach. “But they had two great performances.”

The team placed fourth overall in military and sixth in kick.

“It’s always hard to know how you’re going to do at state because we go against so many strong teams,” Miller said, “but as a coach I thought they did awesome!”

This was the teams first year competing in Kick. Miller started with only eight girls performing in this category verses the 12 that compete in military. At districts, the team won the kick category and placed third in military.

“They did awesome and had lots of fun, which is the most important thing,” said Miller.
