Prep roundup: Royal boys, girls XC dominate first league meet
GRANGER — Royal boys and girls cross country used a pack mentality to win the first South Central Athletic Conference meet.
The boys’ top finisher Fernando Alvarado was seventh in 19:44.08, however, most of his teammates were right behind him as the Knights placed seventh through 12th with all runners separated by less than a minute.
Royal cruised to first with 35 points, comfortably ahead of second-place Granger (51).
Isaac Immel of Riverside Christian won the race in 18 minutes, 48.33 seconds. Wahluke’s Tanu Brock was fifth in 19 minutes, 14.05 seconds.
It wasn’t a loaded field in the girls’ race as Royal was the only team to register in the standings with 15 points.
Abigail Delay led the Knights’ group, finishing first in 22:38.83. The Knights placed first through sixth.
Karen Arellano of Wahluke finished in 28 minutes, 4.80 seconds.
Volleyball
Wahluke 3, Warden 0
WARDEN — Wahluke swept Warden 25-13, 25-21, 25-22, dropping the Cougars to 0-6 in league play.
Kiana Rios had nine digs and three kills for the Cougars; Kayla Golladay added six kills and three blocks.

Girls soccer
Royal 2, Kiona-Benton 1 (SO)
ROYAL CITY — Royal stunned reigning league champion Kiona-Benton in a shootout 2-1.
After star striker Ariel Loften scored for the Bears in the 29th minute, Royal goalie Chenoa Louie came all the way up to take a free kick and evened the game in the 36th.
Royal netted four shots in the shootout, while Louie saved the second Ki-Be shot and the third hit the crossbar.
