November 13, 1941 – September 12, 2018

Gary R. Clay, 76, passed away in Central Washington Hospital in Wenatchee, after a harrowing battle with colon cancer Sept. 12, 2018. Gary grew up in both the Seattle and Spokane areas with parents Lois and Chet Clay. His cousin describes him, saying “growing up, Gary kept me out of trouble and made me feel accepted.”

He served in the Navy in Vietnam. There he received his training for radio and radar repair. After the Navy he worked with Doppler radar weather systems at NOAA. In 2002 he retired from the Edmonds School District Technology Department where he was responsible for the school information networks. He was always willing to teach the youth or anyone with questions about their computer. Upon retiring, Gary and wife Jan Clay (Goddard) moved to Soap Lake.

Gary and Jan’s fondest memories were trips to Mexico, Hawaii and Jamaica together. Gary loved to play pool, cook and most of all watch the Seahawks! Despite his outwardly brusque persona, Gary had a soft spot for his teddy bear collection and his pets. He is survived by his wife Jan and stepdaughter Tami Hicks.
