Marylou Cassiano Allen Newcomb

Marylou Cassiano Allen Newcomb was born Jan. 19, 1934 in Monday, Texas. Marylou passed away peacefully at the age of 84 surrounded by her loving family.

Marylou was the oldest of 13 children. She was born in Texas and lived in California and Nevada before moving to Moses Lake in 1951 where she married her first husband, Joseph J. Cassiano Sr. They had five children Joe, Pamela, Linda, Richard and John.

In 1962 Marylou was a CNA at Samaritan Hospital before enrolling in nursing school at BBCC where she received her Licensed Practical Nursing degree. She was accepted into the second year nursing program offered at BBCC in 1969. Marylou worked at Samaritan Hospital for 10 years and left to work in the office of Dr. Edgar Allen for three years. After her divorce from her first husband in 1972, Dr. Allen and Marylou married in 1974. In 1976, they moved to Spokane where Dr. Allen worked for Group Health and Marylou volunteered for DSHS. In 1986, Dr. Allen passed away and Marylou moved back to Moses Lake to be near her children. In 1987, Marylou married Zane Newcomb who had moved to Moses Lake from Oklahoma. Zane passed away in 2014.

Marylou spend a lifetime taking care of people and volunteering in many charitable causes. She believed in “Do unto others as you would have others do unto you.” She will be greatly missed by her children.

Marylou is survived by her three children Joseph J. Cassiano Jr. (Janet), Pamela Cassiano Curnel (David) and John M. Cassiano (Lori), five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents Luciane D. Smith and Evonna Smith; daughter Linda D. Cassiano, son Richard D. Cassiano, four brothers Oscar Smith, Bug Smith, John Smith and James Smith and sister Carolyn Ross.
