February 5, 1925 – August 17, 2018

Emily Louise Olson, 93, lifelong Moses Lake resident, passed away Friday, Aug. 17, 2018 at Brookdale Senior Living in Moses Lake.

To quote the Bible, “The span of our life is 70 years, or 80 if one is especially strong.” At 93 Emily proved her strength. She was an amazing woman, wife, mother, grandmother and friend.

Emily was born on Feb. 5, 1925 to Elver and Esther Buckley on a farm north of Wilson Creek, Wash. During her growing-up years she called Hartline, Wash. Home. She was the fifth of eight children and grew up in a humble country home. Her grade school years, 1-8, were spent at Breezy Plains School, then she attended and graduated from the Hartline school and was valedictorian of her senior class.

On June 14, 1942 at the age of 17 she married Ralph Olson. They made their home in Moses Lake on a farm in Block 40, where they started their family and raised four children. Emily loved her family and was always there for them. She was a fabulous cook and there were always delightful aromas coming from her kitchen. Everything she made was comfort food and delicious, whether it was her vegetable beef soup, ooey gooey cinnamon rolls, apple pies, sugar and spice cookies or jerky.

She loved gardening and enjoyed her yard of beautiful flowers, being especially fond of her many varieties of iris. She had a special touch to make things grow and said that working in her yard was her way of relaxing. She looked forward to the time when the whole earth would be a peaceful paradise according to God’s original purpose for the earth and mankind.

Cooking and gardening were only two of the activities that she enjoyed. Her most fulfilling and rewarding activity was that of talking to people about God’s Kingdom and the Bible’s promises, one being an earthly resurrection. Baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on Nov. 1, 1949 in Spokane, Wash., she continued to be an active member for 69 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband Ralph and her son Darel. She is survived by her children Duane Olson of Spokane Valley, Wash., Charlene Foss of Redding, Calif. and Betty Wolford and son-in-law Dan of Moses Lake, Wash.; seven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 12 great-great-grandchildren; sister Evelyn Ferguson and brother Elver Buckley, both of Spokane Valley, Wash.

We all have our special memories to cherish, and the things we learned from her touched our lives in a very personal way. We will always love our Mom, our Grandma and friend. A Mom’s love is a gift we never outgrow. Grandma, you were the best!

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Sept. 29, 2018 at 2 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 1610 W. Lee St., Moses Lake.

Emily’s family would also like to thank Hospice and Brookdale for their care and support. Sign online guestbook at www.kayserschapel.com.
