Hazardous waste collection event coming to ML

MOSES LAKE — If you have household hazardous waste around you home that you want to get rid of then you might want to check out the free collection event that is coming to Moses Lake Sept. 22.

The event, which is sponsored by Grant County Solid Waste and the Washington Department of Ecology, will be held at the Grant County Road District No. 2 shop, 12171 Road 3 NE. from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The following items can be dropped off: oil-based paints, oil stains, adhesives, rechargeable batteries, lithium batteries, aerosols, paint thinners, household cleaner, corrosives, pesticides, herbicides, photo chemicals, pool/spa chemicals, old gasoline, road flares, fire extinguishers, all mercury-containing lights (fluorescent bulbs/tubes, compact fluorescent lamp bulbs, high-intensity discharge lamps - with a maximum of 10 lights per person), mercury thermometers and thermostats, antifreeze, brake fluid and waste oil if contaminated with brake fluid, brake cleaner, antifreeze, solvents, carburetor cleaner, water and degreasers.

The following items will not be accepted: latex paint (water-based paints and stain), elemental mercury, used oil, auto batteries, cylinders, alkaline batteries, propane tanks, sharps, ammunition, medications, explosives, empty containers, agricultural waste and commercial waste. Containers larger than five gallons will not be accepted for disposal at the event.
