COULEE CITY — They’ll be showing and they’ll be shining Saturday and Sunday at the fifth annual Decades of Distinction car show at Sun Lakes Resort. The show runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. The resort is located at 34228 Northeast Park Lake Rd.

Admission is free.

Organizer Goldye Moyer started as a way for the family of former Ephrata mayor Bob Ping to display the cars and trucks Ping restored for family members. About 100 cars were on display at the 2017 show, Moyer said.

Grant County Fire District No. 7 will sponsor a fundraising beer garden Friday evening and Saturday, opening at 6 p.m. Friday and noon Saturday. The Coulee City-based band Hometown Hooligans will perform from 6:30 to 10 p.m. Friday. ShyAnne, a Moses Lake band, takes the stage from 6:30 to 10 p.m. Saturday.

Car show registration opens at 8 a.m. Saturday; registration is $20. Previous shows have attracted “restored Model A’s and Model T’s, 1950s Chevrolets with wide bodies and tail fins, muscle cars from the 1970s, trucks, import cars, occasional motorcycles and even project cars, competing for the ‘Best Under Construction’ award,” Moyer wrote.

A “loudest engine” contest has been added for 2018. Local deejay David Bromstad will provide music during the day, and there’s a “poker walk” through the resort.

Awards will be announced at 3 p.m. Saturday and include Sponsor’s Choice, People’s Choice, Kid’s Choice, Most Creative, Best Import and Best Truck, among others. A Best Restoration category has been added for 2018.

The Discover Pass is not required to enter the resort, but it is for Sun Lakes State Park next door.
