Donald F. Burghard

February 26, 1931 – August 31, 2018

Donald F. Burghard passed away Aug. 31, 2018 at Samaritan Hospital surrounded by his family. He was born Feb. 26, 1931 to Fred and Lilly Burghard, Ritzville, Wash. He graduated from Ritzville High School in 1949. Following the closure of the U & I factory, he received his AA degree from Spokane Community College.

He married Lorraine Seibel on Nov. 2, 1951. Together they raised five children. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in November of 1951. He was awarded The Commendation Ribbon with Medal Pendant for meritorious service in Korea during the period Nov. 23, 1952 to Oct. 8, 1953. He was released from active duty in November 1953. In November of 1959 he was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army. He had several job experiences including the U & I Factory until it closed in 1979. He retired from Akzo Nobel in March of 1996.

He enjoyed fishing, his favorite spot Westport with family and friends, playing pinochle and watching western movies, especially John Wayne. Another special part of his life was playing his guitar and singing country songs to his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife Lorraine of 67 years; two daughters Judy (John) Rice of Roseville, Calif. and Michelle (Jeff) LaRoche of South Lake Tahoe, Calif.; two sons Barrett D. Burghard (Krtistin) of Heber City, Utah and Russell Burghard of Moses Lake; four grandsons Michael, Beau, Barrett K. and Tanner; one granddaughter Jade Lynn and two sisters Ramona (Earl) Meise of Odessa, Wash. and Shirley (Fred) Rhodes of Moses Lake. He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter Vicki Sue; brothers Virgil, Herbert, Jim and Raymond and two sisters Viola and Betty. Graveside Services with military honors will be held at Pioneer Memorial Gardens Friday, Sept. 14, 2018 at 2 p.m.
