C. Lennis Hope

August 23, 1925 – August 30, 2018

C. Lennis Hope, our father, grandfather, great-grandfather and uncle returned home to our Heavenly Father Thursday, Aug. 30, 2018. He was born Aug. 23, 1925 in Hibbard, Idaho, the oldest of 11 children to Clarence Dewey and Zella Keppner Hope. He attended elementary school in Burton/Rexburg, Idaho and graduated from Madison High School in Rexburg. He was drafted into the Navy and served in World War II helping save many wounded soldiers as an operating room medic.

He returned home from the war and married Verla Jean Clark on March 12, 1947 in the LDS Idaho Falls, Idaho Temple. They raised six children in Darlington, Idaho-Lost River Valley, where Lennis worked for the certified seed potato companies Idaho Potato Growers, Western Farmers and Carnation Potato Company. He was transferred to Moses Lake, Wash. in 1978 with Carnation where their two youngest children finished high school. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many ward and stake leadership positions. He and Verla served an LDS mission in the Bristol, England Mission from 1991 to 1993 after they retired. They also enjoyed serving in the Seattle and Columbia River Temples.

He was preceded in death by his parents, younger brothers Lauris Hope and wife Joyce, Darrell Hope and wife Donna and Sylverus Hope and younger sisters Rozella McHenry and husband Chuck and Marie Huffaker. He also was preceded in death by sisters-in-law Kay Hope, JoAnn Hope, Maxine Hope and Lela McCulloch and brothers-in-law Merrill Huffaker, Alan Clark and wife Eva and Ben Clark. He is survived by younger brothers LeRoy Hope, Elden Hope and LaVere Hope and younger sisters Laura Huffaker and Phyllis Powell with husband Leon. He is also survived by his brothers-in-law Clyde Huffaker, Jay Clark and his wife Reah and Kenneth McCulloch and sisters-in-law Paula Hope and Betty Clark. He is also survived by six children Martha Hicks (Larry) of Etna, Calif., Margie Waters (Curtis) of St. Johns, Ariz., Blain Hope (Sarah) of Jerome, Idaho, Melode Palmer (Brad) of Moses Lake, Wash. Marilyn Reed (Chad) of Manila, Utah and Daniel Hope (Holly) of Rigby, Idaho; 27 grandkids, 38 great-grandkids with three on the way and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held Saturday, Sept. 8 with viewing from 2-2:45 p.m. and funeral at 3 p.m. at Grape Drive LDS Church in Moses Lake, Wash. A graveside service will be held at the Annis Little Butte Cemetery in Menan/Annis, Idaho on Monday, Sept. 10 at 11 a.m.
