Prep roundup: Moses Lake football stumbles in season opener

SPOKANE — It will take some time for Moses Lake to find its identity after graduating over 20 seniors from last year’s state tournament qualifier.

Moses Lake was unable to do enough offensively and lost its season opener on the road to Ferris 17-7.

Ferris pulled ahead 10-0 in the second quarter before Dominic Signorelli threw a 32-yard touchdown pass for the Chiefs’ lone score.

Moses Lake returns to Lions Field Friday, 7 p.m., to host Mt. Spokane.

Ephrata 28, Cashmere 13

EPHRATA — Mac Laird returned a fumble 75 yards for a score and Ephrata beat Cashmere 28-13.

Ephrata has one more nonleague game this week at Cascade.

Othello 9, Connell 7

OTHELLO — Julian Pruneda scored a go-ahead 1-yard rushing touchdown to help Othello rally by Connell 9-7.

Standout junior Isaiah Perez led the Huskies with 88 yards on the ground. The Husky defense also intercepted Connell quarterback Austin Smith three times.

Othello will get a shot at three-time consecutive 1A state champion Royal Friday, 7 p.m., at home.

Wahluke 23, Wapato 7

WAPATO — Wahluke punched up a class to beat 2A Wapato 23-7.

Behind a dominant offensive line, the Warriors rushed for 349 yards in the first win of the Ryan Antos era.

Running backs Jose Celeya and Dominic Gray rushed for 141 and 94 yards, respectively.

Wahluke hosts SCAC West opponent Granger Friday at 7 p.m.

Okanogan 21, Warden 14

OKANOGAN — Warden lost a back-and-forth game to perennial state tournament qualifier Okanogan 21-14.

Kolbe Tverberg scored his second rushing touchdown with under a minute left in the game to put the Bulldogs ahead for good.

Holden Haworth kept the Cougars close, plunging for a 1-yard rushing TD and catching another 42-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Ryan Arredondo.

Warden returns home to face Chelan Friday at 7 p.m.

Lind-Ritzville/Sprague 48, Davenport 24

RITZVILLE — Austin Thompson scored four times from scrimmage to lead Lind-Ritzville/Sprague by Davenport 48-24.

Quarterback Bryce Kelly accounted for three touchdowns of his own.

LRS will get its first litmus test Friday, 7 p.m., when it travels to Northwest Christian.

Manson 40, Soap Lake 0

SOAP LAKE — Reigning league champion Manson routed Soap Lake 40-0.

Manson quarterback Avery Thompson threw for 187 yards and three touchdowns. The Trojans used a myriad of ball-carriers to amass 229 yards and three touchdowns on the ground.

Soap Lake continues its home stand Friday, 7 p.m., against Yakama Tribal.

Almira/Coulee-Hartline 60, Cusick 8

COULEE CITY — Almira/Coulee-Hartline led 40-0 at halftime to roll Cusick 60-8.

Hayden Loomis rushed for 136 yards and two touchdowns.

ACH travels to Touchet on Friday for a 3 p.m. kickoff.
