Grant County offering composting class

| October 30, 2018 3:00 AM

EPHRATA — Want to learn how to create your compost?

The Grant County Public Works Department will teach you in a free, hour-long class on Thursday, Nov. 8, in the public meeting room of the county Public Works Department at 124 Enterprise St. SE in Ephrata.

The class is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m.

“Composting is a beneficial way of turning yard and garden waste into a beneficial resource that helps plants grow healthier and faster by keeping the soil loose and well drained,” said Joan Sieverkropp, program director for Grant County Solid Waste, which runs the county landfill.

“While it is not a substitute for fertilizer, it does contain beneficial nutrients,” Sieverkropp said. “Composting may also save you money by reducing how much garbage you throw away.”

Sieverkropp said one participant from each household will receive a free, portable compost bin.

There is no need to register for the class. For more information, contact the Grant County Public Works Department at 509-754-6082.
