RICHLAND — Moses Lake finished 2-2 at the first state slowpitch softball tournament to take fourth place.

The Chiefs’ two losses came against Central Valley, a program that has played slowpitch for over a decade.

The Bears took the first-round game 4-3 and the final game for third and four place 4-2.

“We hit the ball well against them,” head coach Mike Hofheins said. “In terms of quality contact hits, we beat them by a long shot.”

Central Valley’s Madison McVey doubled during a three-run seventh inning in the third-place game.

After being dropped to the consolation bracket, Moses Lake routed Lake Washington 22-5 and Camas 10-0.

“Our offense was clicking and our defense — I’m not even sure they got a runner to third,” Hofheins said of the Camas game.

Moses Lake held its own against more experience programs, coming back with fourth place. The top three teams all hailed from the Spokane area; Mt. Spokane topped league rival University in the championship game 10-4, in addition to third-place Central Valley.

“I think we’re just as good as them,” Hofheins said.
