Royal unanimous No. 1 in AP poll

Royal’s 49th consecutive win — a 69-0 thumping of River View — set the record in Class 1A and the Knights were in turn rewarded in this week’s Associated Press Washington High School Football Poll.

Royal (8-0) received all eight first-place votes to hold down the top spot, like it has the entire season. The top three of Royal, Zillah and Hoquiam are 8-0.

It is unclear when the Knights will be tested, boasting wins over Class 2A Central Washington Athletic Conference North champion Ellensburg 34-7, seventh-ranked Okanogan 56-17 and fourth-ranked Connell 42-0.

Almira/Coulee-Hartline held steady at No. 2 in Class 1B. The reigning champion Warriors are 7-1 with their only loss coming against No. 1 Odessa.
