Moses Lake swept by rival Wenatchee
MOSES LAKE — Head coach Jennifer Gering called a timeout late in the third set in hopes of sparking an improbable comeback by Moses Lake.
The next play Wenatchee senior Maeghan Wulf served up an ace to enact match point.
The deflation felt inside Chiefs gym after Wulf’s ace summed up an error-filled evening in which Moses Lake was swept by the visiting Panthers 25-13, 25-15, 25-18.
Gabi Rios recorded a team-high seven kills, however, the offense had trouble maintaining any consistency. The Panthers raced to an early 6-1 lead in the first set before Moses Lake answered with a spurt of its own to tie the set, 7-7.
From there, it was all Wenatchee.
The Panthers closed the first set with three 4-0 bursts to build a 19-10 lead, and won six of the last nine points to clinch.
The Chiefs appeared rejuvenated in the second set, compiling a 6-0 run and led 8-5
Like most of the evening, the success was unsustainable and the Panthers took the lead for good on a 7-0 run.
Once again, the Panthers were spotted a 4-1 lead to start the third set. Moses Lake responded and eventually tied the score, 10-10, on an ace from Chloe Jones.
Meagan Karstetter notched one of Moses Lake’s few kills on the night to make the score 16-15 and then the Panthers regained control.
Wulf’s eighth kill sparked a 9-1 run that eliminated any chances of a comeback.
